June reads. Really solid bunch. Some of these are going to stick with me a long time (HUB, The One). HUB is a hard read, but I’m ready for the sequel. The One is a mindfuck. Others solidified my appreciation for these authors’ writing (Ghostland, My Unbeating Heart). I read and loved Woom, but I now know that was not representative of Ralston’s writing ability. And Eli Wilde impresses me more with ever new novel. I read some new to me authors and added a whole bunch of them to my tbr. And then there was Sailor Moon, which I found fairly disappointing. My kid loves it and has been insisting I read it for a while now. I finally gave it a go and found the characters mostly annoying. I mean, they are 14 so that is to be expected. The squid insists that it gets better once the whole gang gets together and the find their groove, so I will read the next volume. I trust her judgement. Anyway, check out my breakdown below. As usual, I’ve included links to my reviews.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️:
Ghostland, by Duncan Ralston
The One, by John Marrs
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️:
HUB, by Matt Shaw
The Vampire of Koln, by William Becker
Last Girl Standing, by Tom Marshall
⭐️⭐️⭐️:
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Vol 1, by Naoko Takeuchi
Unrated due to pending review:
My Unbeating Heart, by Eli Wilde
If I Die Before I Wake, by R.E. Sargent
While this wasn’t my most productive month, I feel like I’m getting back into my groove. Much of my stress melted away with my kid’s high school graduation. There were, of course, other things to stress over. I had to buy a pair of tires for my car. I broke a tooth. And then a second tooth. And I don’t have the money to fix them. Somehow all of this weighs on me less than chasing after my kid or worrying about other people ever does. I took care of the tires and my teeth can wait. I’m not in constant pain yet. So despite all of these things that should stress me out, I found myself able to focus more on my books. I think crochet has helped with that. I find that doing things with my hands helps me focus.
July is already proving to be a more productive month for me in regards to reading and reviewing. I plan to tick off a few more boxes on the BoH Indie Brawl. They’ve all been great so far. Once I’ve made a bigger dent on the list, I’ll do a write up with a list of links to all of the reviews, much like my monthly roundups. I’ve got more reviews to write and a blanket to finish up. And several other projects to finish, but there’s no timeline on any of my crochet stuff. And maybe I’ll post my favorite bread recipe since the blog I got it from is dead and gone. We’ll see. Anyway, I’m done rambling. Read some books. Leave me some recommendations. Live your life.
