August reads. Heavy on the manga. Horror, of course. I liked The Walking Dead graphic novel more than the tv show. Favorite read this month was the Star Trek book, A Stitch in Time. Let’s break it down by rating and then talk about them a bit.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️:
A Stitch in Time, by Andrew Robinson
Black Paradox, by Junji Ito
Rust in Peace: The Inside Story of the Megadeth Masterpiece, by Dave Mustaine
Deserter: Junji Ito Story Collection, by Junji Ito
The Liminal Zone, by Junji Ito
Soichi: Junji Ito Story Collection, by Junji Ito
Venus in the Blind Spot, by Junji Ito
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️:
I Am Simply Not There, by Otis Bateman
The Walking Dead Vol 1-3
30 Minutes or Less: The Complete Story, by Matthew Vaughn
The Sexorcist, by Matthew Vaughn
A Life to Waste, by Andrew Lennon
Not Today, Satan, by Andrew Shaffer
As you can see, I read a lot of manga and graphic novels. I just love the artwork and weird horror style of Junji Ito. These were all library books on kindle, but I will probably buy them for my shelf at some point. Of this month’s Junji Ito reads, Venus in the Blind Spot was probably my favorite. It’s full of those extreme horror and bizarro elements that I love. But that’s as close to bizarro as I got this month, something I plan to remedy in the coming weeks. I need my bizarro fix! I also read the first 3 volumes of The Walking Dead. I didn’t love the show, but I may continue the graphic novels. Some of the annoying parts of the show either didn’t happen or were killed off early on. Some parts were somehow more annoying though, so we’ll see. At any rate, I’m in no hurry to pick it back up.
I wrapped up the month with a handful of half read books, some from the BoH Indie Author Brawl and some ARCs. Oh, and a mummy romance that is basically a parody of all the worst examples of monster romance (Twilight, I’m looking at you). It’s pretty funny so far. Those reviews are coming this month. And maybe I’ll finish up a couple more drafts. I don’t know.
I’m tired.
