This is one of those more serious horror movies from my list that I mentioned the other day. It isn’t a new movie, but it was completely off my radar until this year. Suddenly it’s popping up repeatedly when I’m scrolling the streaming services for my next day of horror. It’s about a woman with Alzheimer’s, which on its own is terrifying, but adds supernatural elements.
Reaction time: Fake documentary format. Wtf was that with the lie about her grandfather. That’s not a nudge, she instantly made it awkward. Description of Alzheimer’s. Oh I already don’t like this. So far it just looks like a documentary about an old lady who is still in a bit of denial about her condition. Well that escalated quickly. Daughter is not coping very well. Sleep cam’s a little weird. I doubt she agreed to that. Deb’s physical decline is as rapidly progressing as her mental decline. Man I bet people with Alzheimer’s get tired of people asking if they remember. Do you remember? You know I fucking don’t. Eeek. Poor lady. I’m afraid to google how much of the stuff she’s doing is rooted in truth. Are old people really sitting in nursing homes tearing their skin open? Don’t tell me. Hm. Demon possession? Ring. Ring. Ring. Listen, it’s okay to admit that you can’t handle something on your own. I understand wanting to take care of your loved ones but you have to be able to recognize when you need professional help. I don’t like that old man. Holy crap. Ok, so the hospital option isn’t going so well either. But she isn’t the typical Alzheimer’s patient. I hope. Harris, no! Omg I would not be opening any stinky bags found in a basement. SNEK! Ahhhhhh! One word: degloving. I am generally not a squeamish person, but peeling skin off an appendage does ick me out. Bleh. I think it’s the sound effects mostly. Yeah, those cuffs are gonna hold her. Sure. Well if there was ever a question about whether this was just a sick old woman or something more sinister, there isn’t anymore. FUUUUUUUUCK. It’s a remarkable story with a happy ending. Ok reporter dude.
Closing thoughts: That was better than I expected. Creepy af. I love the type of horror that takes plausible realities and spins a worst case scenario and brings to life your worst fears. I like that the supernatural element wasn’t heavy handed. Most of the movie just felt like the characters didn’t know how to care for someone experiencing the most severe symptoms of advanced Alzheimer’s. Good movie.
