Day 25 of 31 days of horror: Cat People (1942)

Reactions: cat sketch. Foreshadowing? Ask you to tea, how cute. Serbia, huh. Not sure about that accent. I guess people didn’t pay attention to these things in 1942. I like the dark, it’s friendly. She sure is spilling her guts to this man she just met. Meow mrrowww. Who the hell carries a cat in a shoebox lol. Cats don’t like her. Seems other animals don’t like her either. You can’t fool a cat. They seem to know who’s not right, if you know what I mean. This old lady knows what’s up. Dude you just met. Getting the distinct impression that this movie isn’t about literal cat people. Cats. Odd women. Aversion to intimacy. She doesn’t want to fuck him so she must be insane. Draw up the commitment papers. Fucking Oliver parading his girlfriend around making Irena feel like a third wheel in her own marriage. Creepy doctor. She’s afraid of intimacy and you’re gonna come on to her?

Closing thoughts: I read an interesting article about this movie queer coding and otherness in this movie and I see it. Good movie, whether you view it with the subtext in mind or simply as a spooky movie about a lady who turns into a murder cat like like the legends of her people foretold.
