Day 9 of 31 days of horror: Ben (1972)

Where Willard ended, Ben begins! Ben and his army of rats are on the way. Ben starts with a recap of Willard’s unfortunate end. I wasn’t going to do any sequels for my Halloween movie marathon, but here we are. I guess Ben got under my skin.

You leave that kitty cat alone, Ben. Hm, they’re using special effects in this one. Not sure I like that. This time, Ben is running the show while carrying on an unlikely friendship with a sickly little boy. Most of this movie is pretty boring. Not nearly enough murder rats. Somehow this is a Golden Globe winner? Also Michael Jackson’s first solo number 1 hit is that song Ben, which is from this movie. A kid’s love song to his rat friend. That bit of trivia is more interesting than the movie. The cops are less stupid this time around and manage to take out the nest. Spoiler alert…Ben survives. Again. I’m not even going to check if there’s another sequel.

Closing thoughts: curiosity kills the cat, or in this case, bores the horror geek.
