Every time I resolve to put a hold on new review requests in favor of finishing the ones I already have, I find an intriguing note in my inbox and I just can’t resist. Just one more, I lie to myself. Every single time I tell myself this lie, I read the book and wonder why I would ever deny myself. The Vampire of Köln, by William Becker is one such book. A vampire terrorizing WWII era Cologne, Germany? How could I resist?

This book begins in typical WWII fiction fashion following a young boy doing his best to avoid catching the soldiers’ attention, stave off starvation, and just survive in a war stricken world. The reader is drawn in by this young boy’s plight, but don’t get too attached! He is the first in a long and bloody string of brutal murders. In fact, don’t get attached to any of the characters because this is one giant bloodbath of a book. No one is safe from the vampire of Köln, and his power grows with every kill. Will the survivors of Köln figure out how to defeat the vampire before it’s too late? You’ll have to read it to find out. The suspense and creep factor will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me. It’s a well written and compelling story. The merging of historical fiction and horror will keep you reading long after you should have gone to sleep. Vampires aren’t my monster of choice (unless they’re sexy alien vampires), but this story hit all the right horror notes. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Big thanks to William Becker for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. You can buy The Vampire of Köln, by William Becker on Amazon for a couple bucks, or read it as part of your Kindle Unlimited subscription.
