Yesterday was my birthday. I spent the day doing birthday stuff like barbecuing and stuffing my face and when everyone went home, I went for a nap that ended up being a sleep. It was great. I didn’t get around to my movie, so I’m doing two today since I declared it a do nothing day. I’m just going to watch while I crochet and share my thoughts afterward. That’s the beauty of birthday week. No expectations. There are some things I want to do (birthday freebiepalooza and beach), but no set schedule. Today is a rest day. I’ll be watching movies and finishing up another pattern test. I should also take pics of the ones I have finished while I’m freshly showered.
Anyway. The first movie I’m watching is called Happy Birthday to Me (1981). Holy crap, this movie was way longer than it needed to be. The ending, apart from the reveal of the murderer, was really cool. Frankly I had no idea who the murderer was, there were so many similar looking girls in the friend group. Granted, I wasn’t paying that close attention to the movie. I think this could have been a much better movie with a little editing.
On to Prom Night (1980). Jamie Lee Curtis! I always skip this one because there’s only one bloody prom movie for me and that’s Carrie. But I think it’s time I have this one a chance. I mean come on, Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the best scream queens. Anyway the plot isn’t similar at all. I thought this one was both dumb and pretty great. I did a little reading because I felt like it was kind of all over the place with stuff that added nothing to the story and it turns out there are multiple versions of this movie, including one without the extra stuff.
Closing thoughts: two pretty decent movies that just happened to have a lot of extra stuff that added nothing to the story. I would watch either of them again.
