I know it’s been a minute since I’ve done one of these. I’ll catch up, I promise. I’m only like…two weeks behind? Whatever. My watchlist is endless, yet most evenings I end up putting on some Star Trek because it calms my brain. Anyway, it’s horror season at the theaters. Lots of upcoming movies that sound good, and some that sound not so good. Since we’re still doing AMC A-list, we’re watching them all. Tonight’s movie was Ice Cream Man.

I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews for this movie, mostly due to the use of genAI. Well, and because it’s a super dumb movie. Lots of plot holes and characters doing stupid things. But there is a plot, unlike some of the other current movies we’ve seen lately (Her Private Hell). The plot plays out as expected, but then just sorta…ends. You’re left with so many questions that you don’t really care enough about to want answers. And there’s an after credit scene that is not worth sitting through the credits for, but it did get a chuckle out of me. And that’s where this movie shines. Lots of laughs. The gore and child zombie army are so unserious and funny. Will I ever watch this movie again? Probably not. But I don’t feel like I wasted an hour and a half on it. I will say there was a specific scene that was…a choice. It got groans from the audience in my theater. Somehow I haven’t seen any backlash about it yet, but it will come.
